I waited for the young man to step into the frame to add a much needed human element.

These next images I saw as being a metaphor for a changing Britain. Some might suggest a broken Britain but I think it's on the mend and these images suggest that to me. Again I waited a while to get various elements into the frame. Then it's a matter of sifting through the images to find one or two that may work well and bin the others.

After several photos of people walking into the empty space I finally had someone carrying a bag with a hint of Union Jack. I waited what seemed like ages for this. I was hoping for a big truck with Union Jack livery or some such. Or a biker with a Union Jack safety helmet, for example. Something to give balance to the broken brolly on the new bench.

If I couldn't get a decent Union Jack insignia of some kind, then something mirroring the red and blue already in the image. Then low and behold, a youngster on his little balance bike happened along and I had enough for an edit. Had I been prepared to wait longer I might have had a better picture materialise but time is not always available.

If you like this blog and would like to see more of my work, please take a look at my website at paultreacy.com and my main blog at photohumourist.com where I will soon be blogging about the process of making my next book, SE26.

I gather material all the time but need to be more disciplined about posting.

Unfortunately, due to technical issues I didn't manage to screen my Flying Space Hoppers movie at this event. Next time. Mind you, come this time next year I'd hope to have something new to show.

I'm not going to caption these. They are what they are.
Almost sounds like a Catholic confession.

I make no excuses.

However, I have recently gotten myself a new camera. The camera of my dreams. No, not the Leica M9 but the diminutive and stunningly effective FujiFilm X100. It is a gem. It's everything I'd been hoping for in a digital street photographer's camera.

As a member of LONDON INDEPENDENT PHOTOGRAPHY Group and its LONDON VILLAGES PROJECT, I will be shooting a lot of material on the streets of Sydenham over the course of 2011 and I will blog them here and some will also appear at THE X100 FILES

Here are some of the test shots I made with this new Fuji camera, the X100.
They and their owners let me follow them around for a few minutes. The humans were a little bemused, I think. Hopefully when they see the prints they'll understand what I was up to. Nine photographs follow.
I've seen some of the plans way back but I'm sure they've changed, for one reason or another. We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out. It's exciting though. Cobbs Corner is not pretty and I hope this development will improve it a lot.
The photographs that make up this body of work come from personal and professional assignments dating back to about 1996.

It features some of my best and most thought provoking work to date.

This is a premium quality book using paper that is 35% heavier than regular photo book stock. It has superb opacity and a lustre finish.

I chose a square format for this book so that all the images, whether vertical or horizontal, would feature at the same size. There's an image on each page and on each spread the two images play off each other in hopes of creating some wit and tension.

It's a detailed little book. One that you can really get your teeth into.

I hope you enjoy it and that you'll tell your friends and colleagues about it.
Thank you for your time.
Two posts in three days. I wonder if I can keep it up.

Here are some photographs I made recently while on foot roundabouts in Sydenham.
I've seen this wonderful old pick-up truck a few times around the place. I like it parked in front of these flats as the colour palette is consistent.
Can't think of the name of the street down the side of the Tesco Express store. Anyway, here it is, deserted, under bright moonlight in the wee hours while most are fast asleep.
This wonderful rainbow appeared as my sons and I left St. Bart's Primary School one wet afternoon.
Finishing up this post with a shot of a gorgeous red acer in my back garden a week or so ago.
